Young people from Wexford’s three Rotary Interact clubs—Loreto, St. Peters, and Presentation—recently showcased their impressive community projects at the Rotary Club of Wexford luncheon on Monday, May 12th.
The Loreto Interact Club, under President Lucy Lawlor and Vice President Aoife Byrne, successfully fundraised €296.30 for the Irish Cancer Society and an additional €361.70 for Rotary International’s EndPolioNow campaign. Highlighting their creativity, Aoife Byrne captivated the audience with her original poem, “Crocus,” composed specifically for World Polio Day.
St. Peters Interact Club, newly established and enthusiastically led by President Greg Donoghue and Vice President Harrison Rossiter-Maguire with teacher Ms Amy Kelly’s guidance, raised an impressive €702.86 for the Irish Heart Foundation. Their fundraising activities included a popular bake sale and a foot golf tournament. Additionally, they collaborated with Loreto Club members in fundraising for the EndPolioNow initiative.
Similarly, Presentation Interact Club, led by President Lucia Donohoe and Vice President Lily Chappell, with support from teacher Ms Marcella Kelly, raised €702.86 for the Irish Heart Foundation. The club’s efforts were particularly meaningful as they were motivated by club member Laura Breen’s personal connection, having lost her mother to a stroke six years ago. Laura’s father generously matched their fundraising, doubling the total donation to an impressive €1404.
Reflecting on the clubs’ efforts, Rotary Club of Wexford Vice President Erik McClintock praised the young leaders, stating, “I think we can all agree that Wexford and Ireland are in good hands. When you look at these students, you just say, wow, this is the future for Ireland today. Congratulations.”
In recognition of their outstanding efforts, the Rotary Club of Wexford has organised a special event—”Pizza Party in the Park”—on Friday, May 16th, to celebrate and bring together the dedicated members from all three Interact clubs.
These achievements highlight the powerful impact of youth engagement in community service, with support from the Rotary Club of Wexford empowering local students to become future leaders.
