The Presentation Interact Club has made an extraordinary impact this year under the thoughtful leadership of President Lucia Donohoe and Vice President Lily Chappell. Supported by their dedicated teacher, Ms Marcella Kelly, club members attended a Rotary luncheon on Monday, May 12th, to share their meaningful achievements and celebrate their successful fundraising efforts.
Focusing their energy on a single, deeply personal project, the club members chose to support the Irish Heart Foundation. This cause resonated strongly with the entire club community, particularly due to a personal connection. Club member Laura Breen tragically lost her mother to a stroke six years ago, making this cause especially poignant and powerful for the students.
Their dedicated fundraising activities throughout the year resulted in a remarkable €702.86 raised, reflecting their hard work, determination, and compassion. Demonstrating tremendous generosity and support, Laura Breen’s father matched the funds raised by the students, doubling their impact and bringing their total donation to an impressive €1404 for the Irish Heart Foundation. This substantial contribution will undoubtedly aid the charity’s vital work in stroke prevention and support services across Ireland.
Rotarian Lucy Nevins provided invaluable mentorship and encouragement throughout the year, guiding the club members in their efforts to organise and execute successful fundraising activities. Her role in nurturing these young leaders highlights the critical support Rotary provides in shaping responsible and proactive community citizens.
Reflecting on the importance of their involvement, President Lucia Donohoe shared her thoughts during the luncheon, stating, “We are made up of a solid group of 12 transition year (TY) students who are keen to put our time off from the strenuous TY studies. We wanted to make a difference and do something substantial in TY that benefits others, and Rotary Interact was a perfect opportunity.” Her words encapsulate the genuine desire among the students to use their transitional year to engage meaningfully and positively with the broader community.
The Presentation Interact Club’s dedication, bolstered by their collaborative spirit and empathy, demonstrates the tremendous potential young people hold to inspire change and positively impact their communities. The club’s commitment to addressing critical health issues, such as stroke prevention and awareness, showcases their understanding of significant societal concerns and their willingness to contribute actively to solutions.
Through their collective efforts and sincere motivation, these students from the Presentation Interact Club have not only honoured the memory of a loved one but have also laid a strong foundation for future leadership and civic responsibility. Their impactful contributions this year highlight the profound effect youth can have when united by a common goal and guided by compassion.
