Sports facilities for schools
Sports facilities for schools
As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations Rotary successfully raised €25,410 for sports facilities for the primary schools of Wexford.
Rotary focused in on the importance of child development and the growing problem of child obesity. Rotary conducted a survey of the eight primary schools and identified a need for more and better sports equipment and training to ensure that our children enjoy the benefits of exercise from an early age. In response to this Rotary set off with the aim of raising €25,000 through its own fundraising efforts, schools sponsorship and donations from the business community. The club was delighted to exceed this target by raising €25,410.
The funds were allocated to the eight primary schools. With the funds one school built a high quality storage area to ensure safe storage of equipment, buying basket balls and tennis equipment. High on most schools’ lists were parachutes for junior classes and yard marking for yard games like hopscotch. One school used part of the funds for orienteering equipment, while another bought sensory equipment for special needs children.
