Final 2025/2026 Just 1 Life Event held at National Opera House

The fifth and final Just 1 Life of the 2025/2026 school year took place on April 21 at the National Opera House. Over 450 students from eight different schools from throughout County Wexford attended the event. Students heard from a variety of different speakers about the often devastating consequences of poor decision making on our roads.

Students were made aware and educated about how lives can change forever in a second, be it by speeding, drink or drug use, using a mobile phone, or simply not paying attention on our roads. Speakers shared their own personal stories from dealing with death and injuries on our roads, and shared videos and images.

At this Just 1 Life event the Mayor of Wexford Garry Laffan awarded Rotary Club member Mike Brand with the Mayoral Award. Mike was given this award in recognition for his years of service to the Just 1 Life programme. Mike Brand was instrumental in launching Just 1 Life in Wexford in 2006 and has dedicated himself to this programme over the intervening years.

As we conclude the Just 1 Life programme for the 2025/2026 school year, The Rotary Club of Wexford would like to thank Wexford County Council for their ongoing partnership which enables this programme to take place year after year. The Rotary Club of Wexford would also like to thank the various speakers at the Just 1 Life events, including An Garda Síochána, Wexford Mental Health, the National Ambulance Service, Wexford Fire Service, A&E consultants from Wexford General Hospital and the Active Travel team at Wexford County Council.
