Katie Stone 2015 Winner of Rotary Youth Leadership Development Competition

In a competition, which recognises and celebrates Wexford’s youngest leaders, Katie Stone, a fifth year student at the Loreto Secondary School in Wexford, has been announced as the winner of the 2015 Rotary Club of Wexford’s Youth Leadership Development Competition.

Following entries from more than 70 students across the county, a representative for each of the 11 participating schools was selected to compete in the Club final, which was held in the Riverbank House Hotel.

The judges were very impressed by the quality of the candidates that participated in the competition and due to this high standard, it was a difficult task to select both the school winners and the overall Club final winner.

The other finalists were;

  • Anna Bell (Presentation)
  • Brandon Maltby (Selskar College)
  • Carl Reardon (St. Peter’s College)
  • Niamh Bridges (Meanscoil Gharman)
  • Clíona O’Leary (Coláiste an Átha)
  • Aoife Murphy (St. Mary’s Secondary School, New Ross)
  • Daniel Murphy (Good Council College, New Ross)
  • Alice O’ Dowd (FCJ Bunclody)
  • Jason Bolger (St. Mary’s CBS Enniscorthy)
  • Clodagh Bohanna (Ramsgrange Community College).

Katie will now represent Wexford when she competes in Regional final of the competition, which will be hosted by Rotary Club of Wexford this year. Club winners from Carlow, Kilkenny, Thurles and Youghal will join Katie in competing for the top prize, a place on a week-long Leadership Development competition which will see the 24 winners from across the country travel to Dublin, Belfast and Strasbourg

The chairman of the Youth Leadership Development Competition, Karl Fitzpatrick, was delighted with the response to this year’s competition. ‘Over the last number of weeks the judges have interviewed over 70 students right across the county and the judges have been commenting on how difficult it has been to select just one winner, which is testament to the calibre of applicants this year. Our future is in safe hands.’ said Mr. Karl Fitzpatrick.

‘The Rotary Club of Wexford are delighted to host the Regional Final of the competition this year and on behalf of my fellow Rotarians, I would like to congratulate Katie on her success so far and I wish her the best of luck in the Regional Final’ added Mr. Fitzpatrick.
