Fr Sean Devereux calls in from the Gambia

Wexford Rotary was delighted to welcome as their guest Fr Sean Devereux who very kindly agreed to share with us an outline of the wonderful work he is involved in as a missionary priest in The Gambia.  Fr Sean, a native of Tachumshane  who did his training in the seminary in St Peters, has been working in The Gambia for many years.  He is currently a Parish Priest with 7 Churches  and 13 schools under his supervision and his work in educating and improving conditions for his parishioners and for all the people of Gambia continues because of what Fr Sean describes as the loyal and wonderful support from donors including many individuals and businesses from in and around Wexford.

Wexford Rotary is currently supporting a Bicycles for Gambia recycle project and Rotary Member, Liam Dwyer, is coordinating  this mammoth undertaking with Fr Sean and all the relevant agencies involved.  Details of collection points and other items on Fr Sean’s wish list will be published and circulated in the next week or so and as President of  Wexford Rotary I would encourage each and every one of you to support  this project through Rotary and ensure that this initiative makes a difference to the people, and particularly the children who sometimes have very long journeys to and from school,  out in The Gambia.

Fr Sean is a true Wexford ambassador and the work that he undertakes on a day to day basis deserves our support.  A very interesting insight into a person’s work, a person that is making such a difference to the community in which he lives and in which he works.
