Former County manager Eddie Breen, the new president of Wexford Rotary, says the club is committed to helping local communities and charities. The handover of the presidency from Madeleine Quirke took place at the Riverbank House Hotel with Mr. Breen congratulating the outgoing president on her successful year,

“My objective is to progress the many community projects which rotary has initiated in recent years and to advance some new ones,” said Mr. Breen, from those benefiting the young to the elderly.

“in particular we are engaging with our Secondary schools on a driver road safety programme ‘Just 1 Life’. Given the recent tragic deaths of young people on our roads this programme has become more important than ever.

Our youth leadership programme is designed to encourage and train the leaders of tomorrow.  We have received tremendous response from the schools and no doubt this will be exceeded next year with the success of Conor Glynn who represented Wexford in Strasbourg as our regional winner, said Mr Breen, He said another worthwhile project is the Young Writers Competition to encourage the art of creative writing and in helping the needy through the Christmas Hamper Programme which aided more than 100 families.

We also provide assistance to local organisations such as Wexford Hospice Homecare and hope to extend our activities in the year ahead.  On the International scene Rotary responded to world disasters such as the Nepal earthquake.  Through the generosity of the Wexford people we were able to provide temporary shelter for those unfortunate people

The Bikes for Gambia was another big success.
